Greener Living Realty means an ongoing partnership between you and your real estate agent. Through the green real estate service, we help you accomplish your objectives of home selling, energy cost reduction and contribution to the environment.
How does it work?
The home selling:
You schedule a meeting to discuss your needs, the valuation of your home and give you all the knowledge you need about the selling process. We can chat about the Toronto real estate market.
Our contracts are made for no more than 60 days and we have no holdover. The process is entirely transparent and you are in control of the transaction.
Once the listing is up we take care of all the aspects of the selling so you can enjoy your time stress-free.
The rebate
We put aside 1% of the 5% commission you pay at closing time.
You can take 6 months (starting from the closing date) to make home improvements to your future home (and/or switch to Bullfrog Power and/or donate to WWF).
Bring us the proof of payment (receipts, bills, contracts) and we give you a cheque for the amount you spent on improving the energy efficiency of your home, up to a total equal to the amount put aside and held in trust.
How much do you get to spend on home improvements?
Estimated value of the property you’re selling x 1% = the amount of the rebate
(Note that the actual amount that will be offered in the rebate will be calculated based on the real selling price of the home).
What can you do with the money?
- Use the money to improve the energy quotient of the home you buy after you sell the present one
- Switch your electricity provider to Bullfrog Power for your next home for a 1 year contract
- Donate to WWF
1.Switch to compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL)
Average cost per household: $250-300
Potential savings in electricity bills: $150-250/year
2.Install showerheads with reduced water-flow and dual-flush or ultra-low flush toilets
Average cost per household: $1000-2000
Potential savings in water bills: $300-600/year
3.Plant native bushes and plants that need less watering and fertilizers
Average cost per household: $200-400
Potential savings in water bills: $100-200/year

4.Improve wall or basement insulation

6.Upgrade to high efficiency kitchen appliances and washer/drier
Average cost per household: $1000-1500 – washing/drying combo, $1500 – 3000 refrigerator

7.Install higher efficiency furnace
Average cost per household: $500-1000 more than a regular furnace
Potential savings in natural gas and electricity costs: $500-600/year when upgrading from a standard 60% efficiency furnace to a 95% efficiency furnace
8.Upgrade to more efficient water heater
Average cost per household: $1,000-2000 for a tankless water heater
Potential savings: $50-100/year
9.Replace old windows and/or doors
Average cost per household: $4000 for 8 high quality windows
Potential savings in utility bills: $400-500/year
10.Solar panels or solar thermal water heating system
Average cost per household: $1000 for a single solar panel producing 200 watts or $20,000-30,000 for a complete solar panel system or $4000-5000 for a solar thermal water heating system
Potential savings: vary greatly depending on the type of the system and its size.
11.Hybrid or electric car
Average cost: $20,000-30,000 for a hybrid
Potential savings: several hundred dollars per year depending on the type of car replaced and kilometres driven per year
