Why Not Try Recycled Paper Countertops? There are many things that a counter top can be made out of. It can be made out of plastic, marble, granite, wood, tile and even glass. However, there is a type of countertop that is becoming more popular because it is so environmentally-friendly, and that is recycled paper countertops. Recycled paper countertops may seem like an odd choice, but they are becoming well-known for their high quality and beauty.
Recycled paper is used in a resin base to create the counters. The counters range in thickness from about one-quarter inch to two inches, and the colors come in many different varieties. One of the great things about this type of countertop is the fact that they are heat resistant and stain resistant as well.
The reason that this type of counter is considered to be green is because post-consumer recycled paper is used and it is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. There is no petroleum, no formaldehyde and only cashew nut shell liquid is used. The counters can even be cut into different shapes using woodworking tools.
The way these counters are made is the liquid resin of the paper is heated and pressed into the forms that create the counter surface. Many layers of newspapers go together to create the countertops. By doing this, the counters are even scratch resistant, which is a big plus for many homeowners who worry that their beautiful new granite or marble countertop is going to become scratched because of a pot.
When you are looking to have a countertop made for your kitchen, you should look at the various methods that exist to make countertops green. You can get a marble countertop but this is not really green as the marble, and even granite, has to be mined out. Instead, why not use recycled materials to make your countertop environmentally-friendly?
There are so many alternatives. You can even use bamboo if you want to. Bamboo can be used on countertop and your floors and since bamboo grows at the rate of one foot per day, it is extremely sustainable. Why not make your kitchen a green oasis by creating a countertop that is made of nothing more than newspapers! There are few better ways to go green. You can customize your countertop to any form that you want, and you don’t even have to worry about heat, scratching or staining on your countertop. | |||
