Saving Water and Energy With The Washer
Who likes to clean clothes by hand? No one does and that is why everyone likes to do laundry with a washer. Like the fridge, the washer is one of the biggest energy hogs in the home and easily the biggest hog of water outside the bathroom. This is troublesome for many homeowners because they have to pay more on their energy bill and water bill as a result. However, if you take some time to be water and energy efficient, it is possible to save the environment and money at the very same time.
- About 80 to 90 percent of the energy that a washer uses is just to heat up the water for washing. This is a horrible waste when you can just use cold water to wash the clothes. If you are looking for ways to save energy with your dryer, the best method is to make sure all the filters are clean. With clean filters, less air has to be forced through to dry the clothes. In addition, you can also only put the dryer on for the time it takes to dry the clothes. If you have a lot of clothes in the dryer, a greater amount of time is going to be needed.
Another option is after you wash your clothes, let your clothes dry outside. This is free and it uses the energy of the sun to dry your clothes. As well, you can get that fresh air smell without having to buy any scented fabric softener for your clothes dryer.
The washer, and by extension, the dryer, are two big energy hogs in your home. You can keep both from costing you too much on the energy bill, and water bill, by just practicing some good energy tips.
