Olive Oil and Borax For Your Cleaning Needs

Olive oil is great for cooking, but Borax is certainly not. However, both products are excellent when you need to do some cleaning. While they are very different, they have one thing in common; being eco-friendly solutions to home cleaning needs.

Olive Oil Uses

With olive oil, most of what you use it for is polishing and greasing items. You should always buy extra virgin olive oil as it has the least processing done to it. Follow these tips for olive oil in your house:

If you have any copper items, you can polish them with olive oil.
Wood cutting boards crack after years of having water on them. You can prevent this by treating the wood cutting board with olive oil.
Instead of using WD-40 on creaky doors, you can use olive oil.
If you have garden tools, they will slowly rust. You can prevent this by treating them with olive oil on occasion.
If you take three parts olive oil and one part lemon juice, you can make a furniture polish that is better than Pledge.

Borax Uses

Borax is a natural mineral that has been used for decades for a wide number of reasons, most often as a natural laundry detergent. However, there are other ways you can use this great mineral:

If you take one cup of Borax and put it in your toilet bowl, then leave it over night, you can clean away all the grime the next morning.
If you use very little Borax, you can put it in your dog’s bed to help remove fleas. Do not use too much as Borax is acidic. Also, make sure you wear gloves when using Borax.
If you take two teaspoons of Borax and mix it with two cups of hot water, you can make an all-purpose spray.

Borax and olive oil could not be more different, but they are both great products for cleaning your home. As with many things in our home, there are many green solutions that not only work better, but are often cheaper as well.
