Keeping Your Home Cool With Window Insulation FilmIn the summer, if your house faces to the south, you will find that things begin to heat up very quickly. Before you know it, you will be sweating and waiting for the winter months so that you can enjoy nice and cool temperatures in your home. During those summer months, you may be tempted to get an air conditioner, but for the environment’s sake, you really shouldn’t. So, what can you do? You can close the blinds but then you are sitting in the dark and you cannot see outside. Instead of doing that, you should look at window insulation film. Window insulation film is becoming extremely popular because it is easy to use and apply. It is simply a plastic film that is put on glass windows in order to reduce heat transfer.
Solar control film is one type of window insulation film. This type of film reflects the infrared part of solar energy, while absorbing the UV component of solar energy. This film absorbs 65 percent of the visible light and 99 percent of the UV light. The film applies directly onto the glass and is both cheap and easy to set up.
The second type of window insulation film is the convection control film. This is attached to the window frame using pressure sensitive tape that is double-sided. It creates a double-glazed system where there is air about half an inch thick between the film and the glass. This reduces the heat flow and prevents any sort of condensation. Often this is used to keep warm air in and cold air out. When applied to a window, this film may have creases in it, but you can remove those by using a hair dryer on it since it is heat-shrink plastic.
The solar control film is used to control heat during the summer months by keeping the sun’s solar energy from heating up the home too much and requiring the homeowner to use their air conditioner. The convection control film is used in the winter when homeowners want to keep heat in the home, rather than outside the home. Condensation is a big problem in the winter months, especially on single-glazed windows, and the convection control film helps to prevent that.
By using these two types of films, you can keep your home much more energy efficient all year long. | |||
