Keeping The Dishwasher From Dirtying Your Energy Bill
Nobody likes to do dishes, and that is why everyone loves the dishwasher. The dishwasher does the dishes for us, but it takes a lot of energy for it to do that. As a result, many homeowners want to find energy efficient ways to do the dishes in the dishwasher. Thankfully, there are plenty ways that a homeowner can accomplish this.
- There is a great deal of debate over whether or not a dishwasher is better than washing by hand, waster-usage speaking. If you only fill up the sink a little bit and have a small basin to rinse dishes in, then it is going to be comparable. However, if you rinse dishes off and leave the tap running while doing so, then a dishwasher is better.
- If your dishwasher uses a booster heater, you can turn down your water heater as a result. With booster heaters, water temperature is raised several degrees, meaning less workload on your water heater.
- If your dishwasher has the no-heat dry feature, then you should use that. This will keep the dishwasher from using heated water to essentially steam the dishes into drying. If you do not have this option, then after the last rinse cycle is completed, you can simply open the door and allow the dishes to dry by the air. This will use less energy as a result.
- Many people rinse dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. If you have a new dishwasher you do not need to do this. Instead, just put the dishes in the dishwasher and they should come clean. Just scrape off food and save the rinsing water because the dishwasher will do that for you.
- Naturally, if you are going to do dishes, make sure you do dishes in the dishwasher with a full load. If you only have two plates and a couple of cups in the dishwasher, then you can just wait until later, or wash by hand. There is no reason to do a load of dishes if you do not even have a full load to wash.
Dishwashers save us time and that is why they are in many households. However, they use energy and water and in order to save both you have to use some efficiency techniques to ensure you are not wasting. This is not only good for the environment, but it is good for your energy and water bill as well.
