Keeping Floors Clean The Eco-Friendly Way
Floors are going to get dirty. If you have kids and pets, the floors are going to get filled with dirt and grime. You will be spending a lot of time cleaning and trying to make things look new again. In an effort to keep things clean, you may start buying floor cleaners that release harmful chemicals into the air, which you and your family breathe in. There are 70 times the number of chemicals indoors as there are outdoors, and floor cleaners are a big part of that.
So, how do you keep your floors clean without having to resort to floor cleaners that use harmful chemicals? There are several options open to you.
- First, you can simply put door mats at the front of the door to collect dirt. If everyone coming into your home brushes their feet off on the door mats, there will be a lot less dirt coming into your home. Door mats can eliminate over half of the floor cleaning that you have to do.
- Another good option is to not allow anyone to wear their shoes inside. Instead of allowing your children to walk through the house with shoes on, you should enforce a no-shoes policy. This can eliminate a great deal of the cleaning you will have to do. If you do this and put in door mats, you can save three-quarters of the cleaning you would have had to do.
- If there are marks on your floor caused by the soles of shoes, you can fix that by mixing together some vinegar and lemon juice in a bowl. Then just apply the vinegar and lemon juice to the floor to scrub away any scuff marks that may exist.
- If you have hardwood floors, rather than use vinegar, you can use baking soda and a damp cloth. This will keep your hardwood floor clean and free of any marks, without worry that you are staining the hardwood by using cleaning products not meant for hardwood floors.
- If you have laminate flooring, then you should use vinegar and water. While your floor will smell like vinegar, the vinegar smell will bind with other bad smells in your home and disappear, leaving clean air behind.
Having a clean floor can seem like a tough job at times, but if you just practice these tips you will have a clean floor that only needs to be cleaned once a week or less.
