How to Make Your Air Conditioner More Efficient
The air conditioner is a hog of energy and one of the biggest contributors to power grids being overloaded. That being said, it can be hard to survive without one when things get really hot outside. So, rather than get you to get rid of your air conditioner, how about just making it more efficient? By making your air conditioner more efficient, you can save money and energy at the same time while staying cool.
- First of all, do not adjust your thermostat on the air conditioner. Leave the temperature at one level and do not adjust it. When you lower the temperature level on your air conditioner, you are just making it work that much harder to make the home a little bit cooler. Stay with one temperature and leave it.
- Light coming into your home heats up your home. When this happens, your air conditioner has to work harder to manage keeping your home cool. Instead, close the blinds and you will find that the home cools almost without having to use the air conditioner. In the evening, open the blinds and curtains to allow heat to get out of the house.
- If you have a fan, then use it. A ceiling fan will keep your home cool at night and you can turn the air conditioner off. The ceiling fan will circle the cool air around the house while drawing up the hot air.
- When you are cooking, use an exhaust fan on the stove to pull the hot air up and out. If you are heating up your home, your air conditioner is going to have to work that much harder to keep things cool.
- If you have a dehumidifier, then use it. Humidity makes you feel hot, so instead of using the air conditioner so much, you can use the dehumidifier to lower the overall humidity.
- The biggest tip is to keep your air conditioner out of the sun. Put the air conditioner on the north side of your house where it can keep cool. You can also put a tree in front of the air conditioner so that it does not get as hot in the shade.
- Whether it is cooking, using the dishwasher or using the dryer, you are heating up your home. Instead of doing these tasks in the middle of he day, do them at the end of the day when it is cooler and your air conditioner won’t have to work as hard.
